The Belly Of A Woman-From The Motherland To Uncle Sam—stage play opening night, Sunday, June 26, 6-9pm at Creative Alliance, 3134 Eastern Avenue Baltimore, MD 21224.
Written and Directed by Margaret Locklear, This lyrical journey through the African American Diaspora from the perspective of the African American woman; challenges concepts and asks questions about race, identity, and the lingering effects of Slavery. The story follows a young woman as she seeks to find her roots. Through the use of; music, dance, poetry, and drama, she tells the story of her search for souls stolen and lost in America. As she seeks to find her true self, she realizes she has been looking at things outside herself for the answer. Finally, she discovers the "source" to heal the "roots" that have been snatched from Mother Africa and buried in the heart of America. This is her story, your story, America's story!
