New York City

Jazz musicians Bill Frisell & Vinicius Cantuaria will be performing this Saturday, Feb. 19, at the (le) Poisson Rouge , located at 158 Bleecker St., New York, NY 10012 at 6:00 pm. Consisting of ten Frisell/Cantuaria originals sung mostly in Portuguese, the exquisitely loopy Seattle guitarist and supercool Brazilian expat's new, low-key, Latin-tinged Lagrimas Mexicanas (Mexican Tears) is about as bland as a Taco Bell burrito. But it's probably safe to assume that the otherwise savvy duo will pepper things up onstage. Ticket prices are from $30-35.

Jazz artist Michael Wolff will be performing this Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Knickerbocker Bar & Grill , located at 33 University Pl., New York, NY 10003. Well versed in the subtleties of R&B, the pianist flecks lots of his work with blues power. He's often looking for new spins on the standard repertoire, though, so the nuances of his arrangements usually get the attention. His take on "If I Were a Bell" is just quirky enough to be refreshing, which should also be the case for this gig, which places jazz-funk maestro Mike Clark at the drums. Wolff likes to push a bit; his rhythm section will definitely push back.

University Park, PA

For those of you that don't know, this weekend at the Pennsylvania State University is the annual IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON).  For those that don't know what THON  is (and God help you if you don't), THON is a two day Dance Marathon that takes place every February at University Park with the purpose of raising money to combat pediatric cancer. It was started in 1973 by the University's Interfraternity Council, and in its first year, more than $2,000 was raised, with 39 couples dancing for 30 hours straight. Today, it is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. You can make your donations here  and you can check out THON's Twitter page  to find out the latest updates going on at the event.

We will keep you posted on any more updates! Have fun!
