Introducing Ms. Carry: A Fresh Voice in Hip-Hop

Rapper Ms. Carry's star is on the rise. Born Paulette Carry, the 24-year-old performer "embraces her femininity with her 'round the way' girl personality and her 'real chick swag.'"

The Washington, D.C.-native, knows that she has to change the game in order to pave her way in an industry where women are marketed as subservient, sex objects.

"My movement is the Presidential Movement. I believe all women should be in charge of every aspect of their lives no matter what," Ms. Carry said.

The rapper plans to bring an authentic flair back to Hip-Hop. Her goal is to show that there are still relevant female rappers who are struggling to be heard.

"I think what we see in Female Hip-Hop today is not realistic," Ms. Carry said. "Half of what you see does not represent everyday lives of real women, it does nothing for us. I feel like it's not fair to start a movement with millions of fans and not be honest about who you are and real life. That's why one of my favorite female, rap artists is Eve. I really feel like she was a real chick who represented everything a real woman stood for and incorporated it into her music—that does not exist today in female Hip Hop."

Ms. Carry's debut mixtape Patiently Waitin'  is set to drop soon. It will feature tracks like "Presidential," "Pumps" and "Bring Da Starz Out." Her message to her fans is simple: "Be you. Never change you and your character for no one."
