New artist: SomaliA (performs this weekend in Cali)

Born in Mogadishu, Somalia,  singer/poet/emcee SomaliA and her family sought refuge from war and tribal separation in America—Minnesota to be exact—when she was 12 years old. Nowadays, her music is a socially conscious reflection of her past and present battles. She sites Lauren Hill, Sade, and Jazmine Sullivan as her musical influences. Rightfully so, her music is hip hop, poetry, jazz, and African flair.

Now based in the Bay Area, SomaliA will be performing this Saturday, July 31, 7 pm-2 am at Somar Bar & Lounge, 1727 Telegraph Ave. in Oakland. She’ll be performing her new single from her forthcoming album for the first time. Click here to RSVP !
