Below are some indiestry events taking place this weekend. This should hang you over until Tuesday!  Enjoy the long Memorial Day Weekend!

 
Washington, DC





Memorial Day Weekend Events-These family-friendly events will take place near the Navy Memorial at 7th and Pennsylvania Avenue:

*Saturday, May 29 at 11 am:
(1) Rolling Thunder wreathlaying, (2) live performance by classic American rock band "Watch for Waves", and (3) Black Creek Gourd Society Navajo Dance Company.

*Sunday, May 30 at 9 am: "Stories of Service" memoir-writing workshop and Spirit of '45 Community-Building Workshop.

*Monday, May 31 at 10 am: Fleet Reserve Association and Naval District Washington wreath layings with Navy Band accompaniment.


Virginia

Sonny Landreth: The slide guitarist will perform at The Birchmere on Saturday, May 29. Known as "the king of the slide guitar", Landreth  has been playing the instrument since he was 13 years old. The show begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $25 (See Ticketmaster.com). The Birchmere is located at 3701 Mount Vernon Ave., in Alexandria, Va.






New York

The Twilight Sad: The Glasgow Scotland-natives  will perform at Bowery Ballroom on Sunday, May 30. The 18+ show is $17 in advance and $20 at the door. The show begins at 8 pm. The venue is located at 6 Delancey St. @Bowery, New York, NY (212) 533-2111.

Baltimore



Open house: Celebrating Community— Saturday, May 29, 4-8 pm at Strand Theater Company, 1823 N. Charles Street. The annual Open House is the Strand’s largest fundraising effort of the year. Proceeds from the Open House will go towards securing script rights for next season, developing a promotional brochure and performance playbills, and the purchase of new lighting equipment and sophisticated box office hardware. Features family hour with face painters, clowns and balloon artists; singer/songwrite Ellen Cherry; a 20-minute recap of the entire 2009-2010 Strand season; Free refreshments. Guests will have an opportunity to participate in a silent auction.


The Art of Conversation feat. Slangston Hughes— Saturday, May 29- 7pm- 2am at E's House, 311 W. Lorraine Ave., Baltimore, MD. Poetry reading. BYOB and food. Costs $5.
