Baltimore, Maryland

Straight Up Tribal—Saturday, May 15, 8 pm at Teavolve, 1401 Aliceanna St. The UMBC-based drum/dance/rap group Straight Up Tribal plays a mix of world rhythms and hip hop, featuring percussionists and drums from many parts of the world. Straight Up Tribal collaborated last year with Filmmakers Anonymous to provide a live soundtrack to an animated film at the Patterson Theatre. This year they are working on a show based on Orpheus and will be featuring some new songs and spoken word pieces.



Town Square Open Mic—
Sunday, May 16, 4 pm at Minas Gallery, 815 W. 36th St. Featuring special guest writer Pat King. Ashlie Kauffman and Sarah Jane Miller host. Poetry / performance / stand-up comedy / acoustic music / fiction / mime / monologues / sleight-of-hand / puppetry / oratory / mimicry. If you can read it, perform it, sing it, or say it with little or no amplification, then bring it on! Free.

The National—
The group will perform at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (Howard Gilman Opera House) Saturday, May 15 at 8:30 pm. The cost is $25. The venue is located at 30 Lafayette Ave., Brooklyn NY 11217.




Washington, DC

Open Studios at Jackson Art CenterThis semi-annual event boasts free admission and refreshments. On Sun, May 16, come out and enjoy a day of captivating art. The event runs from 12 noon to 5 pm.The museum is located at 3048 1/2 R St. NW (Georgetown).

Chicago

Plants and Animals— The group will perform at Lincoln Hall on Sat, May 15. The show begins at 10 pm. This is a 21+ show. The cost is $12 in advance and $14 at the door. The venue is located at 2424 N Lincoln Ave., Chicago, Il 60614.
