Twenty-three-year-old TK da Lyricist (Mike Shannon) is working on his mixtape, Hip Hop Harrassment Vol. 2, while trying to redefine the image of a “gangsta” into the “intelligent hip-hop thug” with his song “The New Gangsta,” available below. TK uses influences from artists like Biggie, Tupac, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco and the Fugees to create music that  is commercial also breaks the mold.

“Music is a passageway to the soul,” said rising hit lyricist, CEO and owner of BnF Entertainment. “To me it’s not just a song, it’s my interpretation of my experiences and my emotions being expressed to the world.”

Ever since TK can remember, he has always been involved with music either through choir or spittin’ out his own rhymes.

“This is in my blood,” TK said. “I’ve been doing this for years.”

TK said he is going to keep rhyming and expanding his company until he is known as the greatest. Thankfully, he’s had the support of his family behind him. Even though they may not have always liked what TK was talking about in his music, he said they tried to constantly educate him on what he needed to know about the industry. Through this support and his own love and dedication to the music, TK da Lyricist created his unique identity.

“That’s the key and the hardest part,” TK said. “[It’s] finding your voice and your individuality.”
