Here are some indiestry events you may enjoy this weekend. This should hang you over until Monday.  


Baltimore, Md.

  •  2ND SUNDAY READING SERIES: Reginald Harris & Rita Stein, & Michael Salcman— Sunday, March 14, 4 p.m.  Admission $3.
  • Waiting for the Sun (part 1) Saturday, March 13, 5 p.m. This event is part of an ongoing project that aims to collect, buy and distribute children's clothes among various shelters & transitional housing projects in Baltimore, including Volunteers of America and Booth House shelter. Shows will include music & poetry (open reading to follow). Suggested donation $5.
Philadelphia, Pa.

AJAMI—This Israeli movie shows the lives of five individuals living in religiously mixed, Ajami.  The film, released to the U.S on Feb. 3, was directed by Scandar Copti and Yaron Shani. It has been nominated for and won various international awards. This weekend the film will be playing at the Ritz 5, 214 Walnut St., Philadelphia, Pa., at 11:15 a.m., 1:50, 4:30, 7:15, and 9:50 p.m.
 
 





Philagrafika— This print design exhibit is displaying its work in prominent museums and cultural locations across the city. The event showcases printmaking of more than 300 artists while also exhibiting the rich culture of Philadelphia.  The exhibitions started on January 29 and will continue until April 11. The event is expected to continue annually with 2010 being its first year. Friday, artists’ work can be found at The Powel House Museum, William Penn Charter School and the Skybox 2424 Studios. African Fashion Show— Fola’s African Shops is running the first installment of the Olney Cultural Collaborative by hosting an African Fashion Show with authentic food and music. The show starts 2 p.m. and food will be served from 2:30 to 4 p.m. It’s free to enter but $5 to eat. The event will be at 5740 North Fifth St. Philadelphia, Pa., as part of the North Fifth Street Revitalization Project. http://olneyculture.wordpress.com/

State College, Pa.
 
Art Exhibit: “Painting Out of the Lines”— is on display at the Penn State Downtown Theatre, State College, Pa. The artist, Michele Rojas Rivera, uses watercolors to depict the works of famous writers. The exhibit will be ongoing until April 4 and begins at 10 a.m. each day.

Not My Label: A Journey of Self-Discovery—What would you do if you were banished by your family and friends for showing the real YOU? What would you do if you had to leave your home because of a complicated TRUTH? Would you be able to regain your inner strength after such events? On Sunday, March 14, the writer simply known as Rula, will perform a monologue from Not My Label: A Journey of Discovery.Written and read by Rula, this true story will explore compassion,taboos, self-identity and more. Come out and show your support for this Ambassador Theater production. The show starts at 7 p.m. at Flashpoint's Mead Theater,located at 916 G St., NW. Tickets are only $15.
