2nd Sunday Reading Series—
Sunday, Jan. 10, 4 p.m. at Minás Gallery, 815 W. 36th St. Features Native Son, Julia Wendell, and Lauren Bender. Open mic hosted by Julie Fisher, of Poetryinbaltimore.com. Admission $3.

Singer/Songwriter Kuku— Saturday, Jan. 9, 8 p.m. at Teavolve, 1401 Aliceanna St. Nigerian singer/songwriter/guitarist, Kuku draws from the assortment of western and African music he heard growing up in Lagos, Nigeria.  His Yoruba acoustic brand of music addresses all human emotions that fall under the universal theme of Love, Freedom and Happiness.  Free Show.


Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Central PA in Philly—
Saturday, Jan. 9, 7-midnight at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut Street.  Bands include Slimfit, Ripe, The Sketties, Main Street Mystics, Angelo M., and Ben Roth (formerly of Perkasie). General Admission Seating/Standing*: $5 ($4 ticket + $1 processing fee). 215-222-1400.            

PhillyBloco— Saturday, Jan. 9, Doors 8 p.m. | Show 9 p.m. at World Cafe Live, 3025 Walnut Street.  PhillyBloco is a 22-members strong band (fourteen drummers, guitar, bass, singer, accordion, a brass section and two Brazilian dancers). Brazilian Music to Shake Your Body and Soul! Admission $15 ($12 ticket + $3 processing fee).

Washington, D.C.


The Great Zucchini:  On Saturday, Jan. 9, this comedy and magic entertainer for kids performs at D.C. Improv. The venue is located at 1140 Connecticut  Ave. NW. The show starts at 11 a.m. Tickets are $10.



Huggy Lowdown & Chris Paul:
Best known for their hilarious appearances on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Huggy Lowdown and Chris Paul will be performing at D.C. Improv from January 7-10. Tickets are $22.

Vienna, Virginia

John Jorgenson Quintet: On Saturday, Jan. 9, the gypsy jazz guitarist performs at Jammin' Java. The show starts at 7 p.m. The venue is located at 227 E. Maple Ave.



North Bethesda, Maryland

Scrapomatic: On Saturday, Jan. 9, The blues, soul and funk group, comprised of Mike Mattison and Paul Olsen, will be performing at The Mansion at Strathmore. The venue is located at 10701 Rockville Pike. Tickets are $15.
