Teodross Avery, Choklate and Yahzarah: Soul & Sax Concert Review
Thanksgiving is a time to be with your loved ones and to show how thankful you are for all that you have been given. On Sunday, November 29, The Indiestry was thankful that we were given an opportunity to attend Soul & Sax. Yahzarah AKA. Miss Purple St. James, Choklate and Teodross Avery prepared a musical feast, with all the fixings and the audience gobbled it down. Here are a few highlights:
Teodross Avery was the definition of "smooth" as he and his band filled Ram's Head OnStage with a mixture of jazz, funk and r&b. Avery made his saxophone sing, as his notes made twists and turns that would be the envy of any performer. The saxophonist commanded the stage, but he let each member of his band perform a solo. At one point in the show, Avery passed the microphone around the audience while everyone sang "Got to have love..." Also, the performer invited Choklate to the stage to perform with him—they made a great team.
Choklate did not disappoint during her solo set either. The Seattle, WA native is a soulful, live performer, who intertwines smooth r&b and sensual soul music...oh and she can bust a rhyme or two—she definitely has rap skills. This was evident throughout her performance, as she improvised a whole song that can only be described as "Suga'". The audience enjoyed yelling out song ideas and lyrics to the singer, and her delivery was effortless. Choklate's highlights include "Bigger Than You" and "Incredible".
Next up was Yahzarah AKA. Miss Purple St. James. The Washington, DC native is a force to be reckoned with. The petite, powerhouse made her entrance onto the stage by way of audience dinner tables (See video below). We hope that the audience moved their plates and glasses to the side. Highlights of her show include "Fast Lane", "I'm a Legend" and "Starship." Her uncanny ability to connect with the crowd made the performance more of a personal experience between the singer and her fans.
Adding to the experience, after the show, Choklate and Yahzarah signed autographs and sat down to chat with their fans and supporters.
Yahzarah, Teodross Avery and Choklate proved that nothing goes better with Thanksgiving turkey than Soul & Sax.
