Independent Movie Spotlight: Jazz in the Diamond District

"Jazz in the Diamond District"
is an independent film that follows Jasmine Morgan (Monique Cameron) as she drops out of school andreturns to Washington, DC, what she refers to as the Diamond District,and gets caught up in the nightlife while trying to become aprofessional singer.

Jazz's younger sister, Leah (EricaChamblee) narrates the story from the perspective of a talented, butshy teenager who is trying to find her own voice. However, with asister as confident as Jazz, she finds it hard to grab a piece of thespotlight.

Directed, co-written, and produced by DC native,Lindsey Christian, the movie features a number of notable DC spots,such as Ben's Chili Bowl, H Street, Duke Ellington School of the Arts,Howard University Hospital and more. Also, with the inclusion of afictional go-go band called District Legend Band (comprised of real DCgo-go band members), it also shines light on the DC go-go music sceneand nightlife.

The movie also stars Wood Harris (he played Avon Barksdale in "The Wire"), Clifton Powell and André Strong.
