Washington DC's Bus Boys and Poets~Indiestry Venue

Most people know Bus Boys and Poets for its great food, books and music. However, a closer look reveals that it is a major hub for social change and self-expression. This venue hosts open mic nights, poetry and writers' workshops, private parties, author events, independent film screenings and lots, lots more.

Anas "Andy" Shallal, opened Bus Boys and Poets in 2005.  The name, "Bus Boys and Poets"  was derived from Langston Hughes, who worked as a bus boy at the Wardman Park Hotel in the 1930s. Like a number of indiestry artists, musicians and poets, Langston Hughes worked long hours to support his self before he became a famous poet.

With locations in Washington, DC and Arlington,VA, Bus Boys showcases some of the hottest local, national and international poets, singers and musicians in its wildly, popular Open Mic series. (Time and day varies based on location) .
