"Caught Train" by SoulonPaper
(Conceptualized from "Missed Train" by Derrick Weston Brown)
I smelled you at the Metro stop too
You exuded sweet oils and coco butter
Your fragrance was welcomed by my nose.
Doors Closing!!!!
Sat beside you on the Yellow
Our eyes met on the Green
We compared Master Teachers on the Orange
“I STAY WOKE” Ahh…you were so deep—quite the intellectual
Fell in love with you on the Red
Like a train stuck in the tunnel, waiting for traffic to pass,
Standing still in time on the Blue
I have always been waiting for you.
And I think that you have been waiting for me too.
But the train is moving
And I don’t need my SmartTrip card anymore
Because I want this train to keep going…
Forever.
Our lines do not have to end.
I wouldn’t even mind if you were one of those guys…
The ones who call at the last minute and expect you to jump up
Be ready in 5 mins.
Baby, you have the number
You can call me at that “If you are calling me this late then you better be God” hour
Because you are the closest to heaven as I am going to get.
But before I could tell him all of this he got off the train.
Doors Closing!!!!
Yellow, Green, Orange, Red, Blue...
My broken heart rode on.
And I'm still missing you...
You exuded sweet oils and coco butter
Your fragrance was welcomed by my nose.

What a dope response poem to my own. I wrote that during my first year in D.C. back in the fall of 2001. I was really confused by the Metro system at the time and I also kept seeing so many beautiful women on the train. I wondered about the many people who see attractive folks on the train but only have less than a minute to make a connection. Damn..the love of my life just got off at Fort Totten and hopped onto the Red Line train to Glenmont. Damn!
p.s Who exactly is SoulonPaper and who exactly makes up the indiestry? Would love to get in contact with y'all.

I am honored that you enjoyed my response to your poem. I came across it and I just thought "wow, a poem about falling in love with a stranger on the Metro--someone that you never even got to speak to. I just had to do a response from the perspective of the woman. And what if these two people actually got to meet, build a connection, nurture a relationship and then broke up. Doors closing!!!
